Nibiru: The Legend

But, seriously... What is Nibiru? This odd name, full of mystery and controversy spawned several explanations and speculations, but really...

Nibiru, what is Nibiru about?

To begin with, the word comes from the Akkadian language, spoken in Mesopotamia more than 2,500 years ago and thereafter a dialect in ancient Babylon.

In some cuneiform clay tablets, finally deciphered, found by archaeologists in the nineteenth century, is mentioned in the following two meanings: crossroad and transition point.

In the rich mythology of Babylon is also related to their god Marduk, promoted to supreme and patron deity when the city became the capital of Mesopotamia.

Let's remember that the Mesopotamians were remarkable astronomers, and had also identified Nibiru with the planet Jupiter, and even some other celestial bodies, such as the North Star.

In modern times, especially during the twentieth century, it was associated with the so-called Planet X, located in the confines of our solar system, allegedly responsible for changes in the orbits of the planets in our outer solar system, therefore forming a binary system with our sun.

According to these theories, in its eccentric orbit, periodically enters into our solar system, causing natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions or even asteroid rain, and, according to this hypothesis, would be responsible for the mass extinction events occurred on our planet, especially the five largest ones: 65, 440, 360, 250, and 210 million years ago.

Definately, this isn't surprising, since, as our astronomers discover new stars, it becomes obvious that binary star systems are very common in the Universe.

Always according to this modern theory, the Planet or rather Star X, Nibiru, in its tens of millions years orbital cycle, would be again approaching to our sun, and in fact would be heading to us.

The Planet X Event
Author's preface:

Back in 2012, pseudoscience gurus, mistakenly, again, combined the supposedly Mayan prophecy and Nibiru, a legend of ancient Babylon, creating the infamous so-called "Apocalypse of 2012”.

Obviously, none of that happened.

But, in my innate human curiosity and my passion for ancient history, impelled me to learn more about the topic and I came to the conclusion that this Babylonian legend, adapted to our time with the current scientific theories about the supposed "Planet-X" was overlooked in literature, and I realized that this was a good chance to write a novel, long, indeed, but also very entertaining.

Set in the not too distant future, my novel could be classified, at first glance, as a Sci-Fi catastrophe classic, but it goes further:

• I’ve tried to respect strictly the scientific precepts, both the current technology and also what we’ll be likely to see in the near future, so I’d better consider my novel as "Scientific Fiction”, always with a certain degree of imagination on the part of the reader and fantasy, on the verge (and even surpassing) of the limits of astrophysics.

• In fact, one of the main subjects of my novel is the so called "Technological Millenarism" or the competition between humans and extremely intelligent, and, moreover, empathetic robots.

• My prediction of the future society is rich and elaborate, various aspects are dealt with: economic, political, social, medical, psychological, religious, ecological, cultural, of course, scientific ... so I think it goes beyond the classical apocalyptic novels; Dystopia? Utopia? Ecotopia? You can reach your own conclusions; in any case, perfectly possible.

• But, far from being just another boring thick book, it incorporates lots of exciting action, suspense, romance, even flashes of humor and eroticism... if I may, it's a very "sexy" novel.

Easy to read, in my humble opinion, the last and surprising chapters leave the reader wanting more.

I hope, I wish, you enjoy it.

Greetings, stargazers!
