Hi there! To celebrate the publication in Galician next Monday of
NIBIRU: CONTINUUM
I am pleased to offer all of you my friends a little present:
EXCLUSIVELY here on my blog. the first pages of the upcoming english edition.
I hope you like it.
Greetings, stargazers!
Total silence, in the pitch
dark. Space-time Continuum stood still, and, for no obvious reason, got going
again.
The Admiral straightened in
his seat, the helmsman droid activated its systems, both looked up at the large
wall screen presiding over the bridge of Nova Terra, the giant planetoid, or
rather, Ark, in which much of Mankind, hundreds of millions, had embarked,
fleeing the impending terrible threat of Nemesis.
-Structural integrity -
ordered the Admiral - ensure the damage caused by the event.
- The Planet X Event or
rather, to be more precise, Nemesis.... - The android´s commentary reverberated
inside the spacious room.
- Damage report! - Martially
insisted the human who commanded the space station.
-Yes, one moment, sir -
replied the helmsman robot; after a few seconds, he said - structural integrity
correct, no external gaps, just some minor damage due to the sudden
deceleration, which reportedly is being repaired by our maintenance robots right
now.
-Ok. NAV, external image -
at his order, the computer displayed a holographic Navigation panel in front of
the Admiral; this one, paralyzed by surprise, could hardly believe his
eyes.
After a couple of minutes
of inactivity, the robot helmsman was getting impatient - Well, sir? - He
asked.
-Something's wrong - the
man could only stammer, suddenly awakened from his momentary trance - please activate
the front camera.
-Yes, sir- replied the
artificial being and began to touch the holographic keyboard with outstanding
piano skills. But nothing happened.
The military began to grow
impatient - So?
-A moment...
A couple of eternal minutes
passed before the presidential call notification sounded, but incoming
connections remained blocked, anyway.
-Shall we activate the....?
-No! - The Admiral exploded
in an aggressive verbiage -fix this, now!- he ordered, pointing his index
finger at the huge giant monitor, where a succession of incomprehensible,
almost psychedelic and even absurd images were shown.
-Ok, ok- and the robot
continued hastily skimming the virtual keys, and even, maybe, with fruition.
Other long minutes passed;
priority call notice blinked, hysterically. Despite the skill of the helmsman,
images would not change.
-Roar!- Growled his boss
- forget that, now, focus on the screen, tell me if you can discern
something understandable, a pattern, anything!
-Yes, sir- his artificial
eyes were a perfect copy but improved from those of humans, so they would
receive the same wavelengths but the Admiral hoped that its circuits could
clarify the chaos on the screen. The droid remained focused, silent, staring at
the wall, seemingly entranced. The military became impatient.
-Report, Soldier!
-Yes, sir, now I can see
it, I can get it, clearly.
The human breathed,
relieved -so?
-It's...just...polygons.
-WHAT?
-Polygons, Basic polygonal
shapes: triangles, squares, circles, etc...
-Are you sure, soldier? - Indeed,
his human brain was unable to process the absurd images, but possibly the
droid's advanced architecture could.
-I'm a hundred percent
sure, sir; what we are watching right now is undoubtedly a crazy succession of
polygons.
-Thank you. Activate incoming calls - now it was
urgent to communicate with the Presidential Cabinet.
